The Government will unveil a new policy on solar energy on November 14, as part of its target to produce 20,000-MW of solar power by 2020. The policy will aim at bringing down cost of solar energy and will be industry-friendly to promote investment in the sector, informed Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy. The Minister will take up with the Finance Minister the need to review Customs duty on certain components used in solar energy equipment. The policy is likely to contain a slew of concessions aimed at reducing the manufacturing cost of solar energy equipment.
