After several years of having an interim peanut entomologist at the University of Georgia, Dr. Mark Abney came on board last fall as a full time entomologist. However, the years of minimal research had taken its toll. New varieties had come to the market and were being used with little to no research as to how those varieties would be affected by most peanut insect pests. Most important, how would those insect pests affect producers' bottom line.
