The Market: Captive bottom grades decline further in June

The continued effects of China's "Green Fence" operation remained apparent this month as the lowest quality grades of recovered paper - mixed paper and old newspaper (ONP) - took further hits in price, according to surveys done by The Paper Stock Report. U.S. and Canadian mill buying prices dropped 12 percent for mixed paper, while No. 6 News fell 7 percent. No. 8 ONP was a little more stable, with a 2 percent decline early in the month. Prices of Old Corrugated Containers (OCC) showed a slight blip upward in the Midwest and a slight blip downward in the Southwest, but otherwise remained flat relative to May prices.
