Verso repairs could take months

It could take several months to repair Verso Paper Corp.'s paper mill in Sartell, Minn., following an explosion that took the life of an employee, the company said. Verso said a preliminary assessment of the damage indicates that the mill's paper machine was not damaged, the operability of the paper machine has not yet been confirmed. Verso intends to continue the damage assessment and will make a decision on the mill's future once the assessment is completed.The May 28 explosion claimed the life of one Verso employee and injured four others while causing substantial damage to the mill's paper warehouse and important infrastructure including the electrical system. Verso has determined that more than 5,000 tons of finished paper and work-in-process inventory were destroyed.
