Pipe demand in the U.S. is projected to rise 2.7 percent annually, to 16.5 billion ft., in 2004, according to a report from the Freedonia Group titled "Plastic & Competitive Pipe."Plastic pipe demand will expand at the fastest pace of any material, the report says. This will create demand for 6.6 billion ft. of plastic pipe in 2004 and require 9.6 billion lbs. of resin. Copper pipe currently is the footage leader among all materials, but plastic is expected to claim that position by 2009, the report says.
