Yucca provides roost for Lasiurus xanthinus (chiroptera: vespertilionidae) in Texas

Big Bend National Park (BBNP), Brewster Co., Texas, has a high diversity of bats compared to other regions in the United States, with twenty species reported (Schmidly, 1991; Higginbotham et al., 1999). Four of these species are in the genus Lasiurus. The hoary bat ( L. cinereus), eastern red bat ( L. borealis), western yellow bat (L. xanthinus), and western red bat (L. blossevillii) have been reported in the Big Bend region. However, only L. cinereus is considered abundant (Higginbotham, 1999).
