At the our Annual General Meeting in May, I was delighted to take on the role of ESMG President and I would like to thank John Twiselton for his excellent stewardship of the Guild over the past twelve months. The 51st AGM was held in Sheffield and included a very strong technical programme. The event was kicked off with a thought-provoking paper by Jonathan Aylen of the University of Manchester, on the international markets for ferrous scrap. It was some comfort to hear that the economic fundamentals do not indicate a dash to EAF steelmaking by China any time soon.
