I WAS speeding over the frozen wastes of the Arctic Ocean on my Scandia 440 skidoo doing a steady 50kph. To my left Cornwallis Island grew out of the broken coastal ice to form the white land mass that housed the small Inuit hamlet of Resolute Bay and to my right was the wide expanse of the arctic ice pack as far as the eye could see. The sun shone low on the horizon shrouded by the brilliant dark blue sky. The temperature was -57℃ with the wind, and although every piece of skin was covered it was a hard cold. Trying to maintain contact with the skidoo's to my front and rear I had one of those moments where I wondered how I wound up here?
