Most operations involving the processing and handling of solids and liquids result in the generation of static electricity and, therefore, a potential risk of problems associated with electrostatic discharge. Static may be responsible for the ignition of a wide variety of flammable substances, causing major fires or explosions, and for the malfunction of process equipment and instrumentation.
