We start this Volume with a new Editor. Dr. Brian Bracegirdle has been Editor since 1998. He took over at short notice, stepped down in 2009 after serving his 9 years as Editor but again had to come back to the role for the very next issue when the incoming Editor was unable to take on the task for health reasons. The Quekett Journal of Microscopy is a unique publication with a long and unbroken publishing track-record. Under Brian's editorship, it has developed a quality of publication that would be the envy of many professional societies and he has worked with authors to ensure that quality is maintained in each and every article. It is difficult to document what Brian has done for the Club in general, and the Journal in particular, and this is perhaps not the place or time to attempt to do so; however I must place on record my deep gratitude for the help and mentoring that Brian has afforded to me, and continues to do so, to ensure that the very high standards that he has established for this journal are maintained. It is a privilege for me to 'take over the reins' of the Journal and I hope to use all my effort to ensure it continues to reflect the diverse interests and talents of our members and the greater microscopical community.
