Part 72, 100 pages long plus nine pages of plates was an ambitious number, was issued in April 1913: it began series two volume 12, or volume 18 as now described. A long paper by Heron-Allen Arthur Earland began - on the role of Foraminifera as "World-builders" (in limestones). It had a still-useful bibliography, and the half-tone plates of foraminiferal limestones (of twelve figures) were of excellent quality. This was succeeded by a paper giving some quite detailed notes on discoid diatoms, by Bale. This cried out for illustrations, but contained not one.
