The history of an object, whether it is an engraved coat of arms on an 18th century silver goblet or the label on a 19th century microscope slide, can be both surprising and intriguing. I am often inclined to contemplate the events or persons that have been connected with an old article, and such musings recently led me on an unexpected journey, beginning with three microscope slides.
