Fossils under the microscope

摘要

The heated religion versus science debate during the 17th century over the Earth's origin fueled interest in rocks, and brought about improved techniques for identifying strata. Understanding advanced further in the second half of the 18th century, and by the beginning of the 19th it was clear that certain fossils were associated with certain rock strata and to the construction of a geological time-scale.
