The Quekett Bicentenary pilot study: A collaboration between the Hunterian Museum and the Quekett Microscopical Club

摘要

This year marks the bicentenary of the birth of the pioneer Victorian Microscopist John Quekett and 150 years since the founding of the Club that bears his name. To mark this occasion, a pilot project, generously funded by the Quekett Microscopical Club, was initiated, aiming to conserve, catalogue, research and promote Quekett's and other slides in the College's collection. This paper reports on the findings of this project, shedding new light on the different technical, social and cultural practices involved in the acquisition and circulation of knowledge about microscopic features of natural history specimens during the Victorian era.
