摘要

According to American Diabetes Association, the prevalence of diabetes continues to grow. In 2007, an estimated 17.5million people in the US were diagnosed with diabetes, while in 2012 the number was 22.3 million people. The estimated national cost of diabetes in 2007 was $174 billion and in 2012 was $245 billion. It is estimated that every 30 seconds a leg is lost to diabetes somewhere in the world.3 Therefore, the least invasive surgical approach is important in the treatment of the diabetic foot for limb preservation. The major initiative for the project described here came from a surgeon (Dr. DK) who initiated the least invasive approach in the surgical treatment of the diabetic foot. The purpose of this project was to precisely fuse MRI and ~(111)In WBC/~(99m) Tc HDP SPECT images using a companion CT from the SPECT/CT system utilized for SPECT studies.
