What began as concern about Greece's ability to service its debts, rapidly escalated into a crisis of confidence about the viability of the European common currency and the longer-term solvency of some of its southern constituents. The European economy has ramifications for the world economy since European economies collectively exceed the USA in size and the crisis therefore impacts world trade. It affects South Africa specifically, the largest contributor to ferro-chrome exports, as it is the country's largest trading partner. Europe's continued economic stagnation would thus affect South Africa's overall exports and ferro-chrome is not immune.
