Submissions of new original research articles to The Journal remain strong, with 1400 articles being submitted during 2008. A key element of our acceptance policy is the early identification of papers that are unsuitable for The Journal or are judged to be insufficiently original or rigorous to warr ant a full review. Figure 1 illustrates acceptance and rejection categories and how the policy was implemented in 2008.
