The Ministry of Petroleum, Government of India and The US Department of Energy (US-DOE) have decided to renew the MoU for joint cooperation on the areas of methane hydrates. The original MoU was signed by both parties in April 2008 for a period of five years under which the US provided scientific expertise, technical manpower and specialized equipment for an expedition under the National Gas Hydrate Programme (NGHP).
