In reference to An easy technique to prevent post-tympanoplasty ventilation tube blockage.

Dear Editor:I read with great interest the article by Faisal Javed et al. titled "An Easy Technique to Prevent Post-Tympano-plasty Ventilation Tube Blockage." Indeed, it is a rather easy technique, and the authors reported success. However, I would like to point out two potential problems that might arise from using such a technique. First, the tube cannot and does not function in the first 2 to 3 weeks while the ear dressing is still in place, a time interval that might be crucial for the success of the operation. Second, an ear tube, especially after tympanoplasty, might cause a permanent perforation of the ear drum.
