Like them or loathe them. Britain's supermarkets havemade organic food available to a wider public, accounting for 80 per cent of organic sales. While the Soil Association supports local organic food, it also believes that it is important to work with supermarkets to ensure best practice. One way is through its Supermarket of the Year Award, a way to both scrutinise and reward supermarkets for their performance in areas like fair trade, animal welfare and the reduction of pollution and waste.
