Growth Rates of Steel Exports and Imports Slow Down in January-October

Both exports and imports of steel (including raw and subsidiary materials) are continuing to be on the high rise, but the growth rates have become much slower. According to the recent statistics from the Korea Iron & Steel Association on the trade of steel products, the accumulated exports of steel from January through October posted a total of 13.33 million tons, up 7.8 percent from the same period last year. Compared with the first, second and third quarter of the year, the export growth rates (based on an aggregate basis) in the January-October period dropped by 9.1 percent points, 2.9 percent points and 1.5 percent point, respectively, thus showing that the growth pace has been much slower.
