Average wage increase rate posted 5.56 percent in the first half of the year, taking an upturn from a downward trend that continued over the past two years. A recent survey by the Payopen, an annual wage information site, on 9,809 employees working at 6,383 firms in 28 business sectors across the country who completed their wage increase negotiation for 2006 in the first half of the year showed that 3,123 people, or 31.84 percent of the total employee surveyed, raised their annual wage by 5-10 percent, while those who increased their wage by less than 5 percent stood at 2,922, or 30.5 percent of the total. 880 people, or 8.97 percent of the total, were successful in advancing their wage by 10-15 percent, and others 233 and322 raised their wage by 15-20 percent and more than 20 percent, respectively. However, 2,259 people, or 23.03 percent of the total employees surveyed, saw their wage frozen or cut this year.
