Imports of Indian Plates for Distribution on Rise

Imports of plates by local distributors from India are increasing. Most foreign plates traded for general purpose in the domestic distribution market in the past were brought in from China and East Europe, but distributors are importing plates from many countries in Asia these days. According to industry sources, local distributors signed a contract with SAIL (Steel Authority of ssssIndia Ltd.) last month to import Indian plates with delivery in October. POSTEEL and other importers in Busan are reportedly scheduled to bring in about 22,000 tons of Indian plates at the same time next month at the price in a range of 455-460 U.S. dollars per ton. It is presumed that price tags for those plates in the distribution market would be in a range of 540,000-550,000 won per ton, when various incidental costs for the sales in the market are added to such import prices.
