Seoul subway station buildings are being changed by the installation of screen doors at each subway station for the sake of safety of passengers as well as creation of beautiful and comfortable space for them. Seoul Metro (formerly Seoul Subway Corp.) is planning to complete the installation of screen doors at 264 subway stations of the Seoul subway lines No. 1-8 by 2009-2011. As major materials for screen doors, stainless steel and aluminum are being applied. For subway line No. 2, aluminum is being used, while new stations of a lot of other lines are taking stainless steel. Although there are some differences among stations in usage, more than 40 tons of materials are being consumed for the installation of screen doors per station.
