Koreas Steel Trade with China Accounts for Over 20 percent of Total Overseas Steel Trade

Korea increased its steel trade volume with China in the first quarter, raising the weight of the trade to over 20 percent of its total overseas steel trade. According to the recent statistics from the Korea Iron & Steel Association on the steel trade by country, Koreas steel trade with China (including Hong Kong and Macao) accounted for 20.4 percent of its total steel trade in the first quarter, marking a sharp increase from 12.7 percent in the same quarter of 2002. Koreas exports to China jumped 78.2 percent year-on-year to 1.13 million tons and imports also showed explosive growth of 103.9 percent to 615,000 tons.
