This year Korean metal and steel industry has disclosed many large-scale projects. including Dongbu Steel's electric furnace and Dongkuk Steel's integrated mill in Brazil. Chinese steel mills' consolidation plan and export control news also attracted the global steel industry's attention. The Korea Metal Journal chose top ten news of 2007 and released them on 17th December. The 'Hyundai Steel's integrated mill,' which had been ranked the first for two consecutive years till last year, was replaced by 'upstream expansion of domestic major mills.' Other news included were 'growing gap of profit between the steel makers and the re-rollers,' 'the US sub-prime mortgage issue,' and 'mandatory certification of construction material'.
