Around two-thirds of UK smokers would prefer to quit the habit. Many of them will make an effort in the coming year, and, in a gesture of support, the Government is to include a voucher for a week's worth of nicotine patches in NHS Quit Kits. Quit Kits, described by the Department of Health as a "box of practical tools and advice" for those who wish to stop smoking, are available in pharmacies. "The addition of a week's free supply of nicotine replacement therapy [NRT] this year was in response to feedback from smokers that they expected NRT to be in the kit", a Department of Health spokesperson told The Lancet Oncology.
