US health-care reforms costing almost USDollars 1 trillion were signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010, paving the way for an incremental restructuring of a sixth of the US economy. The reforms passed with a narrow 219 to 212 vote in the House of Representatives. While the long-term effects will be difficult to predict, the insurance and pharmaceutical industries will almost certainly benefit from the reforms, economists and cancer care experts told The Lancet Oncology.
