摘要

My thanks to Drs. Muehleis and Nordstrom for their letters. The question of whether a sealant can be used therapeutically was addressed first in 1977 at a symposium on incipient caries of the enamel at the University of Michigan and was primarily based on the observation that there was a significant decrease in the number of cultivable microorganisms from infected dentin after sealing occlusal pits and fissures of permanent teeth. These reductions were also found for carious lesions that had barely penetrated into dentin as well.
