Balloon Tamponade with Sengstaken-Blakemore Tube for Penetrating Liver Injury: Case Report

摘要

Gunshot injuries to the liver and juxtahepatic veins present challenging problems for management. Abdominal packing is a useful and widely accepted technique to achieve hemostasis in complex hepatic and retro-hepatic caval injuries but packing alone may not provide adequate homeostasis for especially central gunshot wounds. A few case reports of balloon tamponading of bullet tracts have been reported previously. This case report describes the first reported use of Sengstaken-Blakemore tube to control bleeding from a hepatic injury in the English literature to our knowledge.
