Traumatic rhabdomyolysis, or crush injury (CI), and its systemic manifestation, crush syndrome (CS), remain one of the prevailing causes of high mortality and morbidity rates in catastrophic events like earthquakes, wars and acts of terrorism.1"6 Among the patients with CS due to the Hanshin-Awaji earthquake in Japan in 1995, mortality reached 13.4%. Similarly, 13.6% of CS patients died in relation to the 1999 Marmara earthquake in Turkey.4 Thus, CI and CS are life-threatening conditions.
