The following piece of work originated from reading a short stimulating section on palindromic equations in one chapter of Maxwell's classic sixth form textbook [1]. They are mentioned in [2], though the discussion is limited to the fact that roots come in reciprocal pairs. Yet this topic contains significant and surprising results, three of which will be discussed in detail.
