It is one of the core responsibilities of the academic physician to question the current practice so as to generate and disseminate evidence that facilitates health-care providers and patients alike to understand the disease, thus allowing them make the best possible decisions to optimize treatment success. This evidence should be robust and reproducible. From this stems the concept of evidence-based medicine. In an era when there is incredible oversight in health care, its conduct, and delivery, such oversight should also be applied to the veracity of published data.
