Minimally invasive surgery for acute noncomplicated epidural hematoma: An innovative endoscopic-assisted method

Since the earliest reports of epidural hematoma (EDH), prompt surgical evacuation has been the standard for the prevention of mortality or morbidity for these patients. To date, craniotomy with removal of the hematoma and dural tenting have become the recommended procedure for surgical evacuation. Although craniotomy provides a more complete evacuation of the hematoma, there are insufficient data to support one surgical treatment method over another.1 Recently, we developed an innovative minimally invasive approach that may provide early decompression through a smaller wound with a possibly shorter operative duration.
