In the last year, shootings involving children in Aurora, Colorado and Newtown, Connecticut have grabbed headlines, in addition to the fatal shooting of an unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin. These tragic, sensational, and heinous events are only part of the story of pediatric firearm injury. As with driving or alcohol, the case of firearm injury illustrates how adult decisions have pediatric consequences. Against this background, Lee et al present data regarding the scope of pediatric firearm injury and the relationship with particular types of legislation.
