Flower-likeandleaf-likecupricoxide(CuO)single-crystalnanostructureshavebeensuccessfully synthesizedusingionicliquid1-octyl-3-methylimidazoliumtrifluoroacetate([Omim]TA)underthe microwave-assistedapproach.Bycontrollingtheconcentrationof[Omim]TAandreactiontemperature,shapetransformationofCuOnanostructurescouldbeachievedinashortperiodoftime.Theresults indicatethationicliquid[Omim]TAplaysanimportantroleintheformationofdifferentmorphologies of CuOcrystals.ThecrystalstructureandmorphologyofproductswerecharacterizedbyX-raypowder diffraction (XRD),infraredspectrum IR),scanningelectronmicroscope(SEM),transmissionelectron microscopy(TEM),andselected-areaelectrondiffraction(SAED).ApossiblemechanismforCuO nanostructurewasproposed.Inaddition,UV–visspectroscopywasemployedtoestimatethebandgap energiesofCuOcrystals.
