CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF THE ESSENTIAL OIL FROM RHIZOMES OF Cyrtomium fortumei

Cyrtomium fortumei belongs to the Dryopteridaceae family, which comprises approximately 14 genera and 1700 species throughout the world [1-3] and is wide spread in tropical and subtropical regions [4, 5]. In China, it is mainly distributed in Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangxi, and Sichuan Provinces [6, 7]. It is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine used in the treatment of several viral diseases listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia [8, 9]. The rhizomes of the plant have been used in the past as vermifuges for humans [10]. Worldwide it is widely used to cure many diseases, such as influenza, acute and chronic pharyngitis, cancer, and migraine [11]. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the composition of the essential oil from the plant.
