Knee Sports Injury Outcome Measures

Increased focus and importance has been placed on the outcome measurement of disease, injuries, and their treatment. This is due in part to the limited resources available to treat these entities, thus requiring justification of the methods used. Realization of the increased importance of evidence-based medicine as part of these measurements has also spurred the development of improved outcome-assessment devices. Increasingly, these have become patient-based rather than health-care-personnel-based evaluation forms. The two most common areas in knee surgery evaluated by outcome measures have been anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and total knee arthroplasty. This article focuses on knee sports injury and the most popular outcome measures in the evaluation of the treatment of these injuries.
