Editorial ACL Reconstruction:Revisited,Revised,Reviewed

In this issue of The Journal of Knee Surgery, our lead article by Carson et al retrospectively reviews the Hospital for Special Surgery experience with revision anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery. This is a timely contribution as there is a relative paucity of literature dealing with revision ACL.The past 15 years have witnessed tremendous advances in our understanding of the ACL...anatomical issues, biomechanical aspects of ligament failure and healing; elegant micro vascular studies demonstrating the complex vascular supply; advances in physical examination tests, imaging, and instrumented laxity; marked improvements in surgical techniques and technology; an understanding of the importance of rigid graft fixation, proper graft placement, and graft tensioning; and aggressive rehabilitation protocols have heralded unprecedented clinical results almost independent of which strong graft is used.
