SYNTHESIS OF 4-SUBSTITUTED 2-CARENES IN NOVEL IMIDAZOLINIUM IONIC LIQUIDS

4-Acetyl-,4-acetoxymethyl-,and 4-hydroxymethyl-2-carenes were synthesized using novel ionic liquids.Derivatives of the monoterpene 3-carene (1) such as (+)-4 alpha-acetyl-2-carene (2),(+)-4 alpha-hydroxymethyl-2-carene (3),and (+)-4 alpha-acetoxymethyl-2-carene (4) are widely used to synthesize optically active 1,3-disubstituted 2,2-dimethylcyclopropanes [1],including precursors of commercially important insecticides [2-6].
