The regularly published tables of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacterae-mias only confirm that the MRSA problem is largely out of control in the UK, and infection control teams continue to despair. No other healthcare-associated pathogen of recent times has had such an adverse effect on medical practice, nor achieved such a high profile in both the professional and lay press.
