摘要

Brain extracellular matrix (ECM) provides a structural and regulatory microenvironment in which nerves exert their functions. The ECM undergoes frequent remodelling that is at least partially dependent on neuronal activity. ECM components are producedand released by neurons and glia, and communicate, in a dynamic reciprocal way, with the cells. Tightly controlled proteolysis of the ECM and related molecules plays an important role in the regulation of the neuronal functions. Matrix met-alloproteinases (MMPs) are among the most important modulators of brain proteolysis.
