Iron oxides such as hematite(alpha-Fe_2O_3),maghemite(gamma-Fe_2O_3),and magnetite(Fe_3O_4)are attractive materials due to their high catalytic activity in reducing hydrocarbons and magnetic and magneto-optical properties.Currently,attention is focused on thin films and nanoparticles of the spinel-type iron oxides(i.e.,gamma-Fe_2O_3 and Fe_3O_4),because they exhibit higher coercivity and signal-to-noise ratio than their bulk phases.
