Reclassification of Leifsonia aurea to the genus Rhodoglobus as Rhodoglobus aureus comb, no v., and emended description of Rhodoglobus vestalii Sheridan et al. 2003

Leifsonia rubra and Leifsonia aurea were proposed by Reddy et al. in 2003. In the same year, two new genera, Salinibacterium and Rhodoglobus, were proposed by Han et al. (2003) and Sheridan et al. (2003), respectively. Sequence analysis of the 16S rRNA gene suggested that Leifsonia rubra and Leifsonia aurea are closely related to Salinibacterium amurskyense and Rhodoglobus vestalii rather than to the type species o1 the genus Leifsonia. The phylogenetic relationships among Leifsonia rubra, Leifsonia aurea and these two genera have not been extensively analyzed so far. However, the type strain of Leifsonia rubra is no longer available for any analyses (An and Yokota, 2007). Therefore, the aim of this study was to clarify the taxo-nomic position of Leifsonia aurea.
