摘要

"Genetics has moved beyond the scope of individual families and quiet conversations about which uncle might have had what problem." Genetic testing allows individuals to become aware of risks to themselves and their offspring because of genetic diseases and potential susceptibilities. Through genetic counseling, individuals are informed of genetic conditions, inheritance, short-term and long-term implications, and often, procreative options.Discovering a genetic condition in one person often has repercussions for and affects those related to that individual. In fact, many tests reveal vital health information the individual may not have considered. For example, geneticists report that, as more people undergo DNA testing to discover genetic make-up and family history, more false paternity assumptions are being revealed.
