Bridging the gap from innovation to implementation: proceedings from the 4th Florida Valve Symposium.

Today, we are witnessing a time of rapid development in the treatment of valvular heart disease. New technologies, imaging modalities, and guidelines are being introduced simultaneously, whilst the practice of cardiology and cardiac surgery are realigning to meet new legislative and fiscal challenges. The Florida Valve Symposium was founded on the premise of fostering the collegial relationship between cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons as our specialties align through advances in the diagnosis and treatment of structural heart disease. Since 2007, the Florida Valve Symposium has gathered the global leaders in structural heart disease to openly - and* often colorfully -debate the controversies associated with advancements in imaging, intervention, and surgery. Enhanced by extensive participant discussion, the primary objective of the Symposium has been to define the practical application of shared international experiences in both cardiology and surgery.
