Development of a special needle knife for percutaneous A1 pulley release

Various methods are used to treat trigger digits, including steroid injection, splintage, and open and percutaneous release. Steroid injection and splintage have a high rate of recurrence, and the open-release method needs a longer time to heal and leaves scarring. Although some complications (e.g., digital nerve injury, bowstringing, infection, haematoma, persistent pain) also occur with percutaneous release, this method has been considered to be the most safe and reliable because the surface landmarks of the A1 pulleys have been established (Fiorini et al, 2011; Wilhelmi et al, 2001).
