The N.A.G.'s Institute of Registed Valuers (IRV) began in 2008, However, the origins of a gathering of valuers who would work to exacting standards goes back to 1987. The pioneers could see that valuations completed at that time were falling well below the standards that should be expected of a professional valuer. Sadly the jewellery trade had become one where everything was expected to be supplied gratis. A member of the public would visit their local jeweller with a ring perhaps and expect that jeweller to know its value immediately.
