For this year's conference, winners in the faculty division highlighted the use of beet root and hawthorn berry to improve nitric oxide and triglyceride levels as well as preclinical and clinical studies of a proprietary blend of Ilex kudingcha (Ku Ding Cha) and Coptis chinensis (Chinese goldenthread) in hypercholesterolemia. Other research in this division compared the use of classroom versus self-directed internet learning modules for educating pharmacy students in the area of dietary supplements. In the student category, the winning entries reviewed the use of L-carnitine for improving dyslipidemia as well as chromium's effect on lean body mass.
