Comparative analysis of EDS (egg drop syndrome) viral genome by restriction endonucleases.

Restriction enzyme analysis of the DNA of three indigenous strains and a reference strain of EDS-76 virus were carried out to check for any genetic variation between these strains. The DNAs were extracted from duck embryo passaged and purified virus by phenol:choloroform method and subjected to RE analysis using Hind III, Barn HI and EcoRI which yielded 10, 4 and 4 identical fragments, respectively, with all the strains. The average size of the DNA was estimated to be about 32.8 kbp and the molecular weight was 21.9 MDa. It was determined that all three indigenous strains can be classified under group I..
